By Sister Kaeli A. Merry Meet! Todays herb lesson will be on agrimony. This continues this in alphabetical order and continues a theme of protection and blockage of negative energies. Herb: Agrimony Common Name:agrimony, cocklebur, stickwort, sticklewort Scientific Name: Agrimonia gryposepala, Agrimonia eupatoria Origin: Native to Europe and Northern hemisphere Height- 5–2 m (1.6–6.6 ft) tall Grow Zone: grows in the northern hemisphere of North America and Europe Planet: Jupiter Gender: Male Element : Air. Poisonous or non - non poisonous

Description: From the long, black and somewhat woody perennial root, the erect cylindrical and slightly rough stem rises 1 or 2 feet, sometimes more, mostly unbranched, or very slightly branched in large specimens. The leaves are numerous and very rich in outline, those near the ground are often 7 or 8 inches long, while the upper ones are generally only about 3 inches in length. They are pinnate in form, i.e. divided up to the mid-rib into pairs of leaflets. The graduation in the size and richness of the leaves is noticeable: all are very similar in general character, but the upper leaves have far fewer leaflets than the lower, and such leaflets as there are, are less cut into segments and have altogether a simpler outline. The leaflets vary very considerably in size, as besides the six or eight large lateral leaflets and the terminal one, the mid-rib is fringed with several others that are very much smaller than these and ranged in the intervals between them. The main leaflets increase in size towards the apex of the leaf, where they are 1 to 1 1/2 inches long. They are oblong-oval in shape, toothed, downy above and more densely so beneath. Medicinal uses: diuretic, for liver problems, foot baths, healing wounds, antiseptic. It has been called an "all-healer"

Magickal Uses: Protection, Sleep. Agrimony is best known for its sleep-inducing qualities, therefore it is excellent in dream pillows, especially mixed with mugwort. Enhances magickal healing. A wash or oil increases effectiveness of all forms of ritual healing, psychic healing, or distance healing. Anoint hands with oil to cleanse auras. Creates a barrier against negative energies.

Use if you feel to be under psychic attack. A counter-magick herb, it not only breaks hexes, but sends them back to the hexer.

Culinary Uses: This plant has been used in many medical uses a tea, and as a diuretic, to purify the blood. It is also useful in skin diseases such as acne, pimples, blotches. A strong decoction (boiling it in water, as opposed to an infusion, which is pouring the boiling water over the leaves) of root and leaves, sweetened with honey or sugar, have been taken to cure sores, in doses of a wine-glassful. An infusion has been said to relieve jaundice.
